A Warm Welcome From A Director With A Calling
The Merced County Human Services Department had just built a preschool and needed someone to start and lead the program. My college professor had given them my name, believing I had the heart and vision to build something meaningful for young children and families. When they asked if I would be interested, I said yes — and that yes became the beginning of Bear Country Preschool. That was 1987. Thirty‑nine years later, I am still here, still committed, and still passionate about serving preschool‑age children.
What began as an opportunity has grown into a lifelong mission: to provide structured early learning, not just custodial care; to emphasize curriculum, social‑emotional development, and school readiness; and to create a warm, community‑based environment where every child is known, supported, and celebrated.
Our Vision
To create a joyful, nurturing early learning community where every child feels known, valued, and inspired to grow. We envision a preschool where curiosity is celebrated, relationships are honored, and children build the confidence, kindness, and readiness they need to thrive in school and in life.
Our Mission
To provide high-quality early learning experiences for children through a warm, structured, and developmentally rich program. We are committed to nurturing the whole child by offering a balanced curriculum, strong social-emotional foundations, and a safe, community-based environment where families feel welcomed and supported.
